Why 7 comes up most with two dice
Each die is fair, but their total is not evenly spread. Two dice make 36 equally likely pairs, and six of them add to 7, while only one makes 2 (snake eyes) or 12. Roll a few hundred pairs and watch the bars climb towards the triangle of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

That is why Catan puts the most resources on 6 and 8, and why 7 triggers the robber: it is the single likeliest roll. More dice squash the spread further into a bell shape around the middle, which is the central limit theorem in action.
Questions people ask
Is this online dice roller fair?
Yes. Each die is rolled with crypto.getRandomValues and rejection sampling, so every face of a d6 has exactly a 1 in 6 chance, a d20 exactly 1 in 20, and so on. The tumbling animation starts after the numbers are already drawn.
How do I roll 2 dice?
Set "Dice" to 2 and the type to d6, then press Roll. The total is shown along with each die. Two dice are what Monopoly, Catan and backgammon use.
Why is 7 the most common total with two dice?
Because more combinations add up to 7 than to any other total: six of the 36 equally likely pairs (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1). A 2 or a 12 each have only one way. Build the chart below to watch it happen.
Which dice can I roll?
d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100, from 1 to 10 dice at once, with an optional modifier added to the total. For D&D-style advantage and disadvantage, use the D20 roller.
