Three ways to use it
When you have too many options. Ten restaurants, six films, a to-do list with no obvious first step. Put them on the wheel and let it cut the list to one. Tick "Remove each winner" to turn the wheel into a random order for working through the list.
When you have no options yet. Describe the situation ("a cheap date idea in winter", "a warm-up game for 30 Year 4 pupils") and the AI suggests concrete options. Delete any you don't like before spinning.
When you have two options and a stubborn brain. Spin and watch your reaction. If you feel a flicker of disappointment, you have your real answer, and you can overrule the wheel with a clear conscience. For a pure 50/50, flip a coin.
Why random choice helps
Psychologist Barry Schwartz's work on "the paradox of choice" describes how more options can make choosing slower and leave us less satisfied with what we pick. Handing low-stakes choices to a fair random process saves the effort for decisions that matter. In a 2021 study published in The Review of Economic Studies, economist Steven Levitt found that people who were nudged by a coin toss to make a change they were considering reported being happier six months later, on average, than those who kept the status quo.

How does the random decision maker work?
Type what you are trying to decide. An AI model (via Vercel AI Gateway) suggests concrete options and puts them on the wheel; you can edit them. When you spin, the winner is drawn with crypto.getRandomValues and the wheel lands on it. The AI never chooses the winner.
Is what I type stored?
Your description is sent once to generate options and is not saved by PickSpin. The options themselves are kept in your browser (localStorage) so the wheel is still there if you come back.
What if the AI suggestions are unavailable?
Type your own options, one per line. The wheel works fully without the AI.
Should I use a random decision maker for big decisions?
Use it for choices where any option is acceptable: what to eat, which task first, where to go on Saturday. For decisions about health, money, safety or other people, get proper advice. A spin can still help you notice which outcome you were hoping for.
